The Daniel Defense Rail Mounted Fixed Front Sight is a fixed front iron sight for AR-15 and M4 rifles, mounting to any MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny rail.

Daniel Defense's own summary is that the lightweight, streamlined design makes this sight unobtrusive and snag-free, and the shaping is deliberate. The design accommodates compact weapon lights such as the X300 and TLR-1 positioned forward of the sight, and the concave radius on either side is described by Daniel Defense as a great place to rest your thumb for easy, ambidextrous activation of the light. A front sight that shares the rail with a light is normally a compromise; this one was drawn with the light in place.

It is one piece, machined from 6061-T6 aluminum with a Military Specification hard anodized finish, and it installs on any MIL-STD-1913 rail using a slotted fastener into a self-locking stainless steel thread insert. It weighs 1.1 oz (31 g), and it is designed to complement the A1.5 Fixed Rear Sight.

How It Compares

Its matching rear is the Daniel Defense A1.5 Fixed Rear Sight. If you need both, they also come together as the Daniel Defense Rock & Lock AR-15 Iron Sight Set, which contains this front sight and that rear sight.

Key Features

  • Shaped for a weapon light — clears compact lights such as the X300 and TLR-1 mounted forward of it
  • Concave thumb radius each side — ambidextrous light activation without breaking your grip
  • Snag-free profile — streamlined enough to stop catching on gear and slings
  • One-piece construction — fixed, with nothing hinged or sprung
  • 6061-T6 aluminum — Military Specification hard anodized
  • 1.1 oz (31 g) — and it pairs with the A1.5 Fixed Rear Sight

Compatibility & Fitment

Fits any MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny rail — the top rail of a quad rail or a rail-topped free-float handguard — on AR-15/M4 rifles, and secures with a slotted fastener into a self-locking stainless steel thread insert. The handguard rail must sit at the same height as the receiver rail, or the front and rear sights will not line up.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will it work with a light mounted in front of it?
That is what it was drawn for. Daniel Defense states the design accommodates compact weapon-lights such as the X300 and TLR-1 positioned forward of the sight, and that the concave radius on either side of the sight is a good place to rest your thumb for easy, ambidextrous activation of the light.

What does it mount to?
Any MIL-STD-1913 rail, using a slotted fastener into a self-locking stainless steel thread insert. In practice that is the top rail of a quad rail or of a rail-topped free-float handguard. That rail has to sit at the same height as the receiver rail, otherwise the front and rear sights will not line up.

Does it fold?
No. It is a fixed, one-piece sight, so there is nothing to deploy and nothing sprung to fail. It is designed to complement the A1.5 Fixed Rear Sight.
